Amazon.com Product Description
Love to lift but not a big fan of free weights? Turn to the Powertec WB-MS10-B Workbench multi-gym, a three-person workout system that combines more than a dozen of the best, most-effective free weight stations in machine form. The WB-MS10-B multi-gym doesn't use any cables or pulleys, but instead employs a leverage design to provide the resistance. As a result, the WB-MS10-B not only feels smooth and performs safely, but it's also virtually maintenance-free. The multi-gym--which can accommodate three people at once--supports such exercises as calf raises, shoulder presses, tricep presses, seated rows, squats, bench presses, leg extensions, arm curls, lat pull downs, ab crunches, and many more. In short, it offers exercises for every major muscle group. Plus, you can expand the multi-gym's functionality by adding an optional Powertec accessory, such as a pec fly, leg press, or machine dip accessory. The Workbench incorporates an access tube and knob lock pin for these easy-to-attach accessories (sold separately).

And despite the variety of workout stations, the multi-gym's footprint is actually fairly compact. Other features include contoured pads for comfort, a revised lever lat arm that incorporates both a close-gripped swivel bar and a rotation bar, and a sleek design in yellow. Weight plates are sold separately.

4 out of 5 stars Quality Product   September 7, 2010
Chris (Mundelein, IL USA)
Purchased for $995.

Assembly: I found it to be rather easy. There are only two sizes of bolts/nuts for the entire machine. The larger for all of the serious connections and the smaller for attaching pads etc. Having built a para-body machine before, this was infinitely easier. I had my laptop with the PDF manual (agree it's lame) and then I went on eBay and found a few for sale with multiple pictures, this really helps as you can just pretty much eyeball it. Took about 2 hours to get it completely built.

Operation: It works as advertised, a smooth leverage machine. It is really focused on major muscle work and can handle a lot of weight. I have the older version apparently. The bench press bench is a bit difficult to adjust and you will have to spend sometime getting your bench angles/bar right to get full extension, looks like they changed that some on newer ones. It's uber-safe, no cables, no way to crush or really even pinch yourself (except for plates). You might bump your head a few times but my kids use it. The squat rack is about the best you get for home use.

Quality: I have had no problems with welds etc. It seems very robust. Since I have had cable machines before, there is no maintenance with this other than wiping it down now and then which is nice.

I purchased this system from a big-box sporting goods store. The installation instructions stink. Some bags of bolts, nuts, etc. appear to be mislabeled, but in the instructions it says those numbers are to help THEM, not YOU, so you have to ignore the part numbers on the bags. Gee, thanks! The instructions manual's illustrations were typically very crowded and it was often very difficult to see everything you were supposed to do. No real written instructions, just illustrations. It took close to 6 hours to assemble it, but I bet the second time would be under 4 hours. The instructions, though lousy, were not a major source of dissatisfaction.

After getting it set up, my son's girlfriend tried out the ab crunch station. She probably had about 30 pounds on it and the weld on the pivot arm was breaking! My new gym ... broken almost immediately. I emailed tech support on a Sunday and they responded the next day. They wanted some additional information, which I supplied. About two weeks later, I received the replacement part. I had to do a good bit of disassembly to get the part replaced. Once installed, it felt very flimsy ... not nice and sturdy like the showroom model. A while later, I revisited the store. The showroom model pivot arm was MUCH better designed and MUCH beefier! No wonder!

I took photos and described the problem to Powertec in email. They ignored the email ... no response. I've sent several more ... same result. I guess I'm stuck with a crappy system. I returned it to the Big-Box store on the 89th day (90 day return policy). One other difference between the showroom model and my model: there is an eyelet on each end of a horizontal bar used to attach the chain for triceps pulldowns on the showroom model, making access very easy. My model has one eyelet right in the middle of the bar, forcing me to stretch out over the ab crunch seat ... not a comfortable situation.

This COULD be a nice gym. It probably WAS nice before Powertec cheapened the design. The part that really burns me up is the (lack of) tech support. Ignore customer complaints, PAY THE PRICE! ZERO STARS! CAVEAT EMPTOR!
